The Figure 8

Do you know the power of a figure 8? Drawing a figure 8 requires crossing your midline, which means both hemispheres of the brain have to engage at the same time. When we practice engaging both hemispheres together, we create smoother pathways to our frontal lobe, giving us a better chance at defaulting to problem solving and more positive personal interaction during times of stress. So during this time of uncertainty, if your feeling stressed but you need to focus, take a moment to draw a figure 8 on your knee with your finger. Draw one on paper, draw one in the carpet with your toes, or draw one with both hands at the same time! Tape a figure eight on the floor and have kids walk, jump down the line, or drive cars along the lines. Any time you can add a figure 8 to your day, you’ll be working to rewire your brain for success in challenging moments.
